Ukrainian Defense Giant UkrSpecExport Wins Multimillion Dollar Contract To Upgrade PAF Fleet Of IL-78 Aerial Refueling Aircraft:
Ukrainian Defense Giant UkrSpecExport has secured the Multi-Million Dollar contract to upgrade and modernize the fleet of IL-78 Aerial Refueling Aircraft of PAKISTAN AIR FORCE (PAF).
According to the details, the UkrSpecExport General Director Vadym Nozdri has signed a contract with PAKISTAN AIR FORCE to modernize its fleet of IL-78 Aerial Refueling Tanker.
Reportedly, Ukrainian Defense Giant UkrSpecExport has signed the contract with PAKISTAN AIR FORCE for the modernization of PAF IL-78 Aerial Refueling Tanker Aircraft on the second day of “Arms and Security-2021” Exhibition, which is currently continuing in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev.
“Today, UkrSpecExport, represented by its General Director Vadym Nozdri, signed a contract with PAKISTANI partners for the repair of another (second) IL-78 refueling aircraft,” Ukrainian Defense Giant UkrSpecExport announced via its official microblogging account.
UkrSpecExport further added that all the modernization work on PAF IL-78 Aerial Refueling Tanker would be carried out by Nikolaev Aircraft Repair Plant, which works under another Ukrainian Defense Giant UkroBoronProm.
It is pertinent to mention that UkrSpecExport has successfully secured the deal to modernize the very first IL-78 multipurpose Aircraft of PAKISTAN AIR FORCE. The contract for repairing the aircraft has been successfully fulfilled by the Ukrainian State Enterprises, Mykolaiv Air Repair Plant.
Moreover, Ukraine also confirms the intentions of PAKISTAN AIR FORCE (PAF) to upgrade the two more IL-78 Aerial Refueling Tanker Aircraft of the Service. The total repair package worth $30 million for all the four IL-78 Aircraft of PAKISTAN AIR FORCE (PAF).
It is pertinent to mention that PAKISTAN AIR FORCE (PAF) has purchased a total four numbers of IL-78 Aerial Refueling Tanker from Ukraine from its surplus stock in the mid-to-late 2000s. PAKISTAN has taken the delivery of the first IL-78 Aircraft back in December 2009.
The IL-78 Aircraft purchased by PAKISTAN are equipped with the Russian-designed UPAZ refueling Pods that PAKISTAN AIR FORCE has used to support its Fighter Squadron of its Mirage ROSE Aircraft. Moreover, PAF also used the Aircraft for heavy-lift transport / cargo tasks.
The Russian-designed refueling Pods of IL-78 Aerial Refueling Tanker are suitable for the aerial refueling of PAKISTAN AIR FORCE Dassault Mirage III ROSE and Mirage V Fighter Aircraft. Furthermore, PAKISTAN AIR FORCE also used the IL-78 Aerial Refueling Tanker Aircraft for the aerial refueling of its indigenous JF-17 Thunder Multi-purpose combat jet.

Ukraine formed the UkrSpecExport back in Noveber 1996 by merging two Ukrainian Defense companies UkrInmash and UkroBoronService and it acts as the subsidiary of UkroBoronProm. The IL-78 Midas Aerial Refueling Tanker Aircraft is a four-engine Aerial refueling tanker based on the IL-78 strategic airlifter.
The aircraft was designed in the Ilyushin Aviation Complex in Russia. The main idea behind the design of IL-78 Aerial Refueling Tanker Aircraft is to expand the quantity of fuel from the earlier version, the IL-76 Tanker.
The IL-78 Aerial Refueling Tanker can handle a maximum fuel load of 85, 720 Kilograms or 188,980 lbs in total. The fuel from the IL-78 Refueling Tanker Aircraft can easily be deployed with the help of probe-and-drogue refueling method.
