PAKISTAN ARMY Announces Major Reshuffles In Top Military Brass:
PAKISTAN ARMY has announced the major changes in its Top Military Brass by appointing a new Chief of General Staff (CGS) and Rawalpindi Corps Commander, PAKISTAN ARMY Media Wing Head DG ISPR Major General Babar Iftikhar said in an official statement.
Lieutenant General Azhar Abbas as New Chief of General Staff (CGS) of PAKISTAN ARMY:
According to the details released by the PAKISTAN ARMY Media Wing Head, the DG Inter-Services Public Relations, PAKISTAN ARMY has made major reshuffle in its organizations.
In a major reshuffle in its Top Military Command Structure, PAKISTAN ARMY has been appointed the new and incumbent Chief of General Staff (CGS) as Lieutenant General Azhar Abbas.
Previously, Lieutenant General Azhar Abbas heads both the Intelligence and Operational Wings of PAKISTAN ARMY.
The newly appointed new Chief of General Staff of PAKISTAN ARMY Lieutenant General Azhar Abbas will replace the current Chief of General Staff (CGS) Lieutenant General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, who would now manage the responsibility as Corps Commander Rawalpindi, a Corps of PAKISTAN ARMY that monitor and takes appropriate actions at the Line of Control (LoC).
The post of Chief of General Staff is considered as the top most important post in Command & Control Structure of PAKISTAN ARMY after the high-profile post of PAK ARMY CHIEF, CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF (COAS).
The newly appointed Corps Commanders Rawalpindi Lieutenant General Sahir Shamshad was appointed the Chief of General Staff of PAKISTAN ARMY back in November 2019 after being promoted to the three-star rank back in 2018.
Lieutenant General Sahir Shamshad Mirza Appointed As New Corps Commander Rawalpindi:
Reportedly, the newly appointed Corps Commander Rawalpindi Lieutenant General Sahir Shamshad would be among the top three senior most Generals of PAKISTAN ARMY in November 2021, when the service term of PAKISTAN ARMY CHIEF, CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa expires.
Additionally, Lt. General Sahir Shamshad would also be a potential candidate for the post of either CHAIRMAN JOINT CHIEFS OF STAFF COMMITTEE (CJCSC) or the CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF (COAS) among the most Senior Generals of PAKISTAN ARMY.
Lieutenant General Muhammad Chiragh Haider as New Corps Commander Multan:
In other major change, PAKISTAN ARMY has appointed Lieutenant General Muhammad Chiragh Haider as the new Corps Commander of Multan. He will replace the current Corps Commander Multan Lieutenant General Waseem Ashraf.
Lieutenant General Waseem Ashraf has now been appointed as the Director General of Joint Staff Headquarters (DG JSHQ).
Prior his appointment as the Corps Commander Multan Lt. General Muhammad Chiragh Haider was previously serving as the Director General Joint Staff Headquarters (DG JSHQ).
It is pertinent to mention that PAKISTAN ARMY has promoted 37 brigadiers, including 2 Women Officers, to the rank of Major General.
“Promotion board from Brigadier to Major General was held at General Headquarters. CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa presided [the meeting],” DG ISPR said.
On November 5th, 2020, In a major reshuffle, PAKISTAN ARMY promoted Six Major Generals of PAKISTAN ARMY to the rank of Lieutenant Generals, including the former Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor.
The promoted Generals of PAKISTAN ARMY includes former DG ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor, Major General Muhammad Ali, Major General Sarfraz Ali, Major general Salman Fayyaz Gillani, Major General Akhtar Nawaz and Major General Sardar Hassan Azhar Hayat.
