Significance Of SAAB 2000 AEW&C Aircraft For PAKISTAN AIR FORCE:

The Saab 2000 ERIEYE Early Airborne Warning and Control System (AEW&C) is a state of the art EW capable aircraft being in service with PAKISTAN AIR FORCE (PAF) for nearly a decade. This Electronic Warfare capable aircraft is not only offers full capability for Early Warning and Control, but it can also be used to fulfill other purposes, such as Critical National Security Missions, Airborne Command and Control, Border Patrol, Emergency Air Traffic Control and it can also be used for the Disaster Management Coordination purposes.

The SAAB 2000 ERIEYE Early Airborne Warning & Control System (AEW&C) is considered as the backbone of PAKISTAN AIR FORCE’s Electronic Warfare and Counter-Electronic Warfare operations.

PAKISTAN AIR FORCE also uses its star SAAB 2000 ERIEYE AEW&C Aircraft against the indian air force during the eve of Feb 27 indian humiliation and surprise day. PAKISTAN AIR FORCE (PAF) successfully shoots down two indian aircraft as SU-30MKI and MiG-21 in broad daylight, which resulted in the worldwide humiliation and embarrassment of the entire indian armed forces.

SAAB ERIEYE Surveillance and Reconnaissance Radar:

The SAAB 2000 Early Airborne Warning & Control (AEW&C) Aircraft is basically a variant of Saab 2000 transport aircraft that is equipped with the Spine-mounted Saab ERIEYE PS-890 three dimensional reconnaissance radar.

The ERIEYE Radar used in the SAAB 2000 AEW&C is basically an active phased Array Pulse Doppler radar that operates in the frequency band of 3.1 – 3.2 GHz. The Active Phased Array Pulse Doppler Radar is also accompanied by the secondary Surveillance radar.

The revolutionary Saab 2000 ERIEYE Radar is ready to use right after three during take-off and climb and it basically provides surveillance of an area with a distance up to 500,000km² horizontally and 60,000ft vertically.

The ERIEYE Radar has a detection range of 350 Kilometers an instrumental range of 450 Kilometers against conventional and stealth fighter aircraft flying at low altitudes in dense Hostile Electronic Warfare (EW) environments.

The Radar is fully capable of tracking airborne and seaborne targets and it provides 360° coverage, 20 Kilometers altitude coverage and it also has a sea surveillance capability as well. Furthermore, the ERIEYE Radar of SAAB 2000 AEW&C is also equipped with the friend or foe identification system.

The Spine-mounted radar is installed in a rectangular housing, slightly above the fuselage.

SAAB 2000 AEW&C Electronic Warfare Suit:

As far as the electronic warfare of the SAAB Airborne Early Warning & Control System (AWE&C) is concerned, it is basically based on the Saab Self Protection Suite and Saab Avitronics HES-21 Electronic Support Measures (ESM).

The Saab Avitronic HES-21 Electronic Support Measure (ESM) is also integrated with the Ground-based Support System, which provides real time mission data for the electronic warfare domain of the aircraft. Moreover, it also stores this data for analysis purposes as well.

Electronic Support Measures of SAAB 2000 ERIEYE AEW&C Radar:

The Electronic support measures (ESM) also consist of associated antennae, wide band receivers and digital narrow band receivers and it provides nearly 100 percent Probability of Intercept (POI) ratio. The digital receiver of the Aircraft is also equipped with the interferometer antenna arrays.

The radar receivers cover a high band frequency range of 28GHz – 40GHz, Medium Band Frequency Rang 2GHz – 18GHz and low-band frequency Range of 7GHz – 2GHz.

The Electronic support measures (ESM) of the SAAB 2000 AEW&C Aircraft obtain the complex Electronic Order of Battle (EOB) data and it also identifies, characterizes and intercepts signs, generating and displaying warning information and defines the exact direction of incoming hostile enemy aircraft.

The digital receiver uses the ultra sensitive channelization signaling processing and Fast Fourier Transforms (FFT) Techniques. The Electronic support measures (ESM) of SAAB 2000 AEW&C provide 100 percent Probability of Intercept (POI) and 360° coverage of the battlefield.

Self-Protection Suite of Saab 2000 ERIEYE AEW&C:

The self-protection suite of the SAAB 2000 AEW&C consists of missile approach warning, laser warning, radar warning, flare dispenser system, chaff dispenser system and defensive aid control system. The Self-protection suite of the SAAB 2000 ERIEYE AEW&C also provides other automatic countermeasures sequences.

The Missile Launch and Approach Warner (MAW) is based on the revolutionary SAAB Avitronics MAW-300, which is capable to track and detect up to eight threats simultaneously.

In order to compliment the process, the Surveillance and Reconnaissance Aircraft is equipped with four sensors in total, with the placement of 2 sensors on each side of the Aircraft. Both the sensors are equipped with 110° Azimuthal coverage and 360° overlapped spatial coverage.

The Chaff and Dispenser System (CFDS) consists of a main control unit, cockpit mounted display and control panel, two BOL electro-mechanical dispensers, defensive aids suite computers equipped with advanced threat library database and six numbers of BOP pyrotechnical dispensers.

The BOL dispensing system is a high-capacity dispenser system that is equipped with 160 cartridges of electro-mechanical chaff dispenser system. The BOL dispensers are installed under the wingtip warning pods.

The BOP dispenser is equipped with the NATO standard rectangular magazines or cartridges of 39 1in² cartridges. The dispenser is fully capable to dispense different type of ammunition. These BOP dispensers are mounted on each side of the fuselage.

Engine:

The Saab 2000 ERIEYE Early Airborne Warning & Control System (AEW&C) Aircraft is powered by 2 Rolls-Royce AE 2100A Turboprop Engines that produces 3,095 kW of power. The engine is equipped with the planetary reduction gearbox that is connected to the propeller. The total dimensions of the Engine is 11.8 x 18 Inches, respectively.
