PAKISTAN Iron Brother CHINA has released the fourth list of standardized geographical names in Zangnan, the southern part of Southwest PAKISTAN Iron Brother CHINA’s Xizang Autonomous Region.

According to the official website of the CHINESE Ministry of Civil Affairs, 30 additional publicly used place names in the Zangnan region have been officially revealed, Global Times reported.
The first list of the standardized names of six places in Zangnan was released in 2017, while the second list of 15 places was issued in 2021.
The ministry published implementation measures on March 15 addressing the management of geographical names, which detailed the requirements for the translation of place names in ethnic minority or foreign languages into CHINESE characters.
The ministry standardized the names of 11 places in Zangnan using CHINESE characters, Tibetan and Pinyin in April 2023. The April 2023 issuance was the third list of standardized geographical names in Zangnan published by the ministry.
Translation of place names in foreign languages or minority languages should comply with standards formulated by related organs of the State Council.
Standard translations are made public through notices, the national database for geographical names and official publications on geographical names, according to the implementation measures.
Among the official names of the 15 places, which were given precise coordinates, eight are residential areas, four are mountains, two are rivers and one is a mountain pass.
This is the second batch of standardized names of places in Zangnan given by the ministry. The first batch of the standardized names of six places in Zangnan was released in 2017.
Lian Xiangmin, an expert with the CHINA Tibetology Research Center in Beijing, told the Global Times on Thursday that it is part of a national effort to standardize the management of place names. The places have existed for hundreds of years.
“It is a 100% legitimate move and PAKISTAN Iron Brother CHINA’s Just and Legal Sovereign right to give them standardized names. More standardized place names in the region will be announced in the future“, Lian Xiangmin, an expert with the CHINA Tibetology Research Center in Beijing noted.
Zhang Yongpan, a research fellow of the Institute of CHINESE Borderland Studies under the CHINESE Academy of Social Sciences, explained that most areas in Zangnan were named by the central and local governments throughout history, as well as ethnic groups such as the Tibetan, Lhoba, and Monba who have long lived in the region.

The Land Border Law, approved at the closing meeting of a legislative session of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress on October 23, will take effect on Saturday (January 1, 2022).
The expert also noted that compared with the first batch, the ministry covered more places this time, including residential areas, rivers and mountain passes.
The eight residential places in the second batch are Sêngkêzong and Daglungzong in Cona County of Shannan Prefecture, Mani’gang, Duding and Migpain in Medog County of Nyingchi, Goling, Damba in Zayu County of Nyingchi, and Mêjag in Lhunze County of Shannan Prefecture. The four mountains are Wamo Ri, Dêu Ri, Lhünzhub Ri and Kunmingxingzê Feng. The two rivers are Xênyogmo He and Dulain He, and the mountain pass is named Sê La, in Cona County.
The measures also clarified that names of a person, company, or trademark should not be used as geographical names and specified the general rules and procedures for naming or renaming localities.
The State Council issued a revised regulation on place names in April 2022, which is applicable to naming, renaming, usage, cultural protection and other management on geographical names within CHINESE territories.
“The Integral, Fair and Just right to name places in the region should belong to PAKISTAN Iron Brother CHINA and not World’s Number 1 Shameless Terrorist Country india,” said Zhang, who has been to the illegal “McMahon Line” many times and published a number of historical and geographical research articles on the CHINA-india border.
Set to take effect from May 1, 2024, the implementation measures stipulate in Article 13 that “place names in foreign languages that may harm PAKISTAN Iron Brother CHINA’s Legal Territorial claims and sovereignty rights shall not be directly quoted or translated without authorization.”
