It is pertinent to mention that MBDA has previously announced that it signed the first export contract of its Albatros NG Naval Based Air Defense System (NBAD) with an undisclosed International customer, which would become operational in 2024.

MBDA Albatros Naval Based Air Defense System (NBAD):

The Albatros NG NBAD uses the CAMM-ER extended range lethal missile for providing extended coverage to high-value targets. Now, with the acquisition of NG Naval Based Air Defense System (NBAD).

PAKISTAN NAVY became the first export customer to use the MBDA’s Next Generation Albatros Naval Based Medium Range Air Defense System on its MILGEM Class Stealth Warships.

PAKISTAN NAVY MILGEM ADA Class Stealth Warship Program:

PAKISTAN Ministry of Defense (MoD) has signed the contract with the TURKISH ASFAT (Askeri Fabrika ve Tersane İşletme) for the procurement of 4 numbers of MILGEM ADA Class Stealth Warships back in July 2018.

According to the contract, 2 of the MILGEM ADA Class Stealth Warships would be constructed in TURKEY’s State Owned Istanbul Shipyard Command, while the remaining two would be constructed in PAKISTAN at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works (KS&EW) under Transfer of Technology (ToT) from its Iron Brother TURKEY.

The construction activities of PAKISTAN NAVY’s Two Stealth Warships was started back on March 11, 2019 at the Istanbul Naval Shipyard.

The construction of third Stealth Warship is underway at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works (KS&EW) at Karachi. Whereas, the construction of the final and fourth MILGEM ADA Class Stealth Warship is expected to be start in June 2021.

It is expected that PAKISTAN will start receiving the delivery of state of the art Stealth Warships from 2023 and deliveries would be completed in 2025.

It was announced earlier that PAKISTAN wants to customize some designs in its fourth and final MILGEM Stealth Warship. In this context, PAKISTANI Scientists and Engineers working on the project would be able to incorporate all those changes in the fourth and final MILGEM ADA Class Warship.

The name of the fourth and final Stealth Warship, chosen for customized changes, would be named as JINNAH Class Warship. The JINNAH Class Concept is expected to be the joint design of both Iron Brothers, PAKISTAN and TURKEY, exhibited at the IDEF ’21 Fair scheduled to held on August 2021.

With the construction of these state of the art and modern Stealth Warships, PAKISTAN will gain the ability to construct and build next generation stealth MILGEM ADA Class Warships indigenously with the technical help and support of TURKISH Engineers.

The MILGEM ADA Class Stealth Warships being constructed for PAKISTAN have a total displacement of 2,926 tons that sits between 2,400 ton ADA Class Warship and the 3,000 tons ISTIF Class Frigates.

Albatros NG CAMM-ER Missile System:

The CAMM-ER (Extended Range) Missiles has a total weight of 160 Kilograms and it has a maximum range of 45+ Kilometers. The CAMM-ER Missiles have an active RF seeker and 2-way data link.

It means that there is no need to install any additional target illuminator (the SMART-S Mk 2 3BAR will do the job in this case). All the engagement information about the target can easily be transmitted to the missile via the data link module.

As there is no need to install any additional Target Illuminators (Type 345 Illumination Radars) and two additional Data Link antennas would be installed on PAKISTAN NAVY’s MILGEM ADA Class Stealth Warship.

The fire and forget system of Albatros CAMM-ER Missile system would potentially add more capability to PAKISTAN NAVY to engage more hostile aerial targets in the Hybrid Electronic Warfare Environment.

Now, with the selection of MBDA Albatros NG Naval Based Air Defense System (NBAD), a different 16-cell Vertical Launching System (VLS) would be installed behind the main Leonardo Rapid main gun.

The 16-cell would be armed with the CAMM-ER (Extended Range Missiles that uses their own unique Vertical Launch System (VLS) that uses a cold gas generator to eject the missile from its container.

CHINESE HQ-16 Medium Range Air Defense System:

The CHINESE HQ-16 Medium Range Air Defense System previously selected by PAKISTAN NAVY features a 16-cell Vertical Launching System (VLS) that is designed to install just behind the Leonardo (Oto Melara) 76 mm Super Rapid main gun.

The Harbah Supersonic Land Attack and Anti-Ship Cruise Missiles have a range from 450 Kilometers to 750 Kilometers in total. PAKISTAN NAVY has also finalized the Harbah Anti-Ship and Land Attack Cruise Missiles for its Type 054A/P Class Stealth Warships.

Other Armaments of PAKISTAN NAVY MILGEM ADA Class Stealth Warships:

The other armaments of PAKISTAN NAVY ADA Class Stealth Warships are ASELSAN GÖKDENİZ Close-in Weapon System (CIWS) and two ASELSAN product 25 mm STOP Remote Controlled Stabilized Naval Guns.
