The man behind Operation Zarb-e-Azb, former CGS and Corps Commander Multan Lieutenant General Ishfaq Nadeem passes away due to cardiac arrest in Rawalpindi on Friday, September 24, 2021, PAKISTAN ARMY Media Wing Head DG ISPR Major General Babar Iftikhar said in an official statement.

According to the details released by the PAKISTAN ARMY Media Wing Head, the former Chief of General Staff (CGS) of PAKISTAN ARMY Lieutenant General (r) Ishfaq Nadeem, who passes away on Friday due to cardiac arrest, was laid down in Rawalpindi.

CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF (COAS) and Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (DG ISI) Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed attended the funeral prayer of former Chief of General Staff (CGS) of PAKISTAN ARMY, Lieutenant General (r) Ishfaq Nadeem at Rawalpindi.

PAKISTAN ARMY CHIEF General Qamar Javed Bajwa and DG ISI Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed, Senior Civil and Military people from all walks of Life attended the Namaz-e-Janaza of Former CGS Lieutenant General Ishfaq Nadeem.

Lieutenant General (r) Ishfaq Nadeem was served as the Director General Military Operations (DGMO) for two years before being promoted to the rank of Chief of General Staff (CGS) of PAKISTAN ARMY.

“Lt Gen Ishfaq Nadeem Ahmed (retd), AK Regiment, left for eternal abode. Very competent officer, great friend & gentleman. In the picture, I am pinning badges of rank of Colonel Commandant along with Gen Raheel Sharif. Will miss him. May he live in eternal peace in Jannah. Ameen.” Lt. General (r) Haroon Aslam said.

Lieutenant General Ishfaq Nadeem was one of the finest soldiers of PAKISTAN ARMY. He belonged to the 34 AZAD KASHMIR Regiment and he commanded a Strike Infantry Division and led the military operation against the indian state sponsored and indian state funded terrorists in Swat region.

He has also commanded the Mangla Corps as Brigadier and served as the Corps Commander Multan.

Lieutenant General Ishfaq Nadeem is said to be man behind the blueprint of Operation ZARB-E-AZB in the tribal regions against the indian state sponsored and indian state funded terrorist elements.

He has extensive experience in PAKISTAN’s tribal region. He has previously promoted as a Brigadier in Waziristan and later on he promoted as Major General in Swat. This is the reason that it was said about him that “No one understands the military ops in tribal areas better than him”.

Throughout his remarkable and distinctive career, he is described as being straightforward, blunt and assertive and extremely professional Military Men. This is the reason that Lieutenant General Ishfaq Nadeem regarded as one of the finest Soldier produced by PAKISTAN ARMY in its history.

Man Behind the Success of Operation ZARB-E-AZB:

Lieutenant General Ishfaq Nadeem, hailed from Chakwal, served as the Chief of Staff of I Corps, PAKISTAN ARMY’s oldest formations. He was the course mate of COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa from the 62 PMA Long Course.

Additionally, he has also led the Second Battle of Swat as the General Officer Commanding or GOC.

Lieutenant General Ishfaq Nadeem was the man who designed the blueprint for Operation ZARB-E-AZB during his tenure as the Director General Military Operations (DGMO).

Due to his professional expertise in the preparedness of Operation ZARB-E-AZB, PAKISTAN ARMED FORCES launched a massive Joint Military Offensive named as Operation ZARB-E-AZB, after the name of Sword of HOLY PROPHET HAZRAR MUHAMMAD (P.B.U.H).

During the operation Zarb-e-Azb, PAKISTAN ARMY launched decisive action against various indian state sponsored and indian state funded militant groups, including the TTP, the East Turkistan Islamic Movement, the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, Al-Qaeda and Jundallah.

The Operation ZARB-E-AZB gains immense support from all segments of PAKISTANI society.

Due to the Operation ZARB-E-AZB, PAKISTAN ARMED FORCES break the backbone of indian state sponsored terrorists by killing thousands of indian state sponsored and indian state funded terrorists in the tribal region of PAKISTAN.

Due to the tremendous success of Operation Zarb-e-Azb, the terrorist attacks in PAKISTAN dropped to all time low and the overall security situation of the country improved.

After the DGMO, Lieutenant General Ishfaq Nadeem appointed as the Vice Chief of General Staff (VCGS) and shortly, he promoted to the rank of Chief of General Staff of PAKISTAN ARMY. He was also in the list to become the next CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF of PAKISTAN ARMY, however the current CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF General Qamar Javed Bajwa received that title.
